We got a new sofa and love seat today. Not a moment too soon. Here is what the old loveseat looked like:
And the sofa was in similar disrepair.
We have our 18 month old bulldog, Wonderbutt, to thank for this fine furniture handiwork.
What you can’t fully comprehend from these pictures is the discomfort of sitting on decidedly lumpy cushions, the animal fur that clung to the fabric, and the decidedly musky smell of dog that permeated the upholstery.
A month ago, in a rare moment of family unity, my husband, daughter, and I all agreed that we needed new couches.
We even agreed on the criteria. They needed to be leather and/or vinyl, and they were not allowed to have removable cushions. Oh, and they needed to be cheap. Because it would be hard to explain to the authorities why we abandoned our bulldog in the middle of a busy highway after he chewed through our antique, expensive leather davenport. If it’s cheap, we can just leave the ruined furniture on the side of the road instead.
Behold Wonderbutt’s New Chew Toys!
Our new rear end receptacles are not completely Wonderbutt-proof, I have a feeling. This is why I have decided that we will host our daughter’s graduation party and wedding reception here in the next couple of months – even though Dimples is only nine years old. This is probably the only furniture we will be buying in the next 15 years, and everyone is already taking bets on how long it will be worthy of visitation. Unlike JP Morgan, I’ve decided I should try to play it safe.
So, if you happen to receive an invitation in the mail for our Summer Recept-uation Party, you should not hesitate to accept. This could be your last opportunity to enjoy our hospitality for at least another decade.
Oh, and just try to ignore the plastic wrap on the couch.
I can sense Wonderbutt’s enormous anticipation of destroying the new furniture. I bet he is already doing it!
So far, he does not seem to be too interested – but that’s probably because we are home!
OOh, I love the couches! I am very worried for the couches! Put us down for 4 to the Recept-uation Party, sounds fun!
Are you sure it won’t be five? It might be late this summer… 😉
May the force be with you! 🙂
LOL! I’ve never needed the force more! Maybe I should make a personal visit to the Jedi temple!
Very nice furniture…
You know Wonderbutt is drooling just thinking about getting to be alone with his wonderful new chew toys.
He has been pretending that he has no interest. He is a sneaky one…
Congrats and good luck
Thanks! We will need it!
I love your foresight and planning. Happy Summer Recept-uation Party!
Too bad I couldn’t have had that foresight and planning before we chose Wonderbutt!
Those look beautiful! It is a little scary though. We recently got new furniture too. I thought of soaking everything in Lysol to try to disguise the leather scent. Our dog hasn’t chewed up anything too recently (except a swing cushion and a trampoline), but it looks tempting to me.
A trampoline sounds like a pretty amazing chewing accomplishment. Perhaps he is still letting that get through his system before he tackles his next big project.
He just tore up a shirt, so he must be digesting ok now…furniture beware.
Did he tear it up – or did he eat it? There is a fine distinction 😉
I think this was just torn up…maybe he is still digesting the trampoline. It was hyatt the edges though. I don’t want to overstate his eating abilities.
oh, the lengths to which we’ll go for our fauna housemates…
my doc wanted me to get rid of my 2 cats cuz I’m allergic and have asthma – hedubble l no – not gonna happen!!!
btw, your new butt holders look very nice, and not cheap at all. Hope they’re comfy!!
🙂
Ironically, I’ve barely sat on them. I sat on the old leather chair with Wonderbutt last night so he wouldn’t feel left out. The rest of the Firepants family sprawled out on the new stuff.
WB is going to have a .’field day’ with that…show us the same pics in two weeks! Boom! boom!
WB is going to have a whale of a time demolishing that lot…more pics in 2 weeks just to show that it is still in one piece
Your wish is my command, Boss!
It should be that way
It should be that way
bella is 7, bear is 3 + we’re up to couch set #3! I figured once I added a toddler to the mix it was only sensible to buy the latest one from ikea – and apparently that was a good idea!
We almost got one from Ikea, too, but didn’t feel like driving that far to test it out. When this one’s done, I may get your advice on the Ikea one!
Hope you’re up for that long drive soon! 🙂
In the “guess which day WB takes his first hunk out of the new furniture contest” I’ll take……wait, contest is already over, isn’t it?
Ye have so little faith…
The couches are so nice I kind of want to go down to Texas and protect them while you are away.
And my cat has no interest in destroying the new patio furniture that is in our house. She doesn’t even want to sit on them. So far, so good.
Wow! Your cat is showing remarkable self-control. I hope that lasts!
My mom sent me a picture yesterday while I was out of her on one of the new chairs. She just went there herself. It lasted a week, though.
Enjoy ’em while you can.
Your new furniture is beautiful! We truly hope Wonderbutt doesnt do the same to this batch. He may take it over and make it his personal territory. 🙂
We wish you the best with your furniture!
God Bless You and dont forget St. Jude… 🙂
The collies and chuck 🙂
Congrats!! I was waiting to see the next new target of wonderbutt. Maybe you can train him not to sit on them, given they are fairly new and wonderbutt is not habitual of them!
Ha! Beautiful new furniture. We saw an old couch being processed into a trash truck the other day and thought of Wonderbutt. 🙂
